At nine months, Teddy was hospitalised with severe hives.

“First he would cry and he would reach out to me, and I would hug him, but as time went on, he became more distant and didn’t respond to me. It is as if he didn’t believe that I would come back and that I could take him home. How can a nine-month-old baby know, how can he understand?

“Each time I went the distance was worse until he ended up like a rag doll, just limb and completely unresponsive. He became very interested in things, but no response to people. I was the one as far as he could understand, that abandoned him in the hospital. It was very troubling to have a child that you loved very much but [who] was so distant.”

An elderly woman gives us an emotional account of her son’s mental deterioration and her sadness over who he grew up to be – the US Unabomber, Theodore Kaczynski, once America’s most-wanted criminal for his bombing spree in the 1980s and 1990s.
