Tariq Mehmood is a writer, filmmaker, and former lead defendant in the Bradford 12 trial (1982), where he was acquitted of terrorist charges for organizing armed community defense against far-right attacks. His debut novel, Hand On the Sun (1983/2023), explores anti-racist resistance among 1970s–80s British migrants, while recent, The Second Coming (2024) imagines a dystopian Britain under far-right rule. His latest novel, Sing To The Western Wind, Verso, 2025, is set-in never-ending wars and racism that feeds them. He co-directed the award-winning documentary Injustice (2001). His new film on the Bradford 12 will be released later this year. Mehmood teaches at the American University of Beirut and his work bridges activism, art, and social justice.
