He has photographed stories in the United States, Kashmir, Palestine, Israel, India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Austria, and Qatar. Showkat previously collaborated on projects with UNICEF, Handicap International, Oxfam, Mercy Corps International and Médecins Sans Frontières from Kashmir and several Indian states. His photographs of Kashmir have also appeared in Reuters and the New York Times. Showkat received the Best Photographer award at The Drum Online Media Awards in 2017 for his work in India during 2016 and 2017, including photo stories highlighting India’s Dalit community and the plight of abandoned children and widows in the country. In 2019, his portraits of Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh, titled “100 Faces of Rohingya”, was awarded for Best Use of Photography at The Drum Online Media Awards.
