She oversaw the commissioning, direction and editing of Global News Insight’s long form content, essays, special series and projects. She also oversaw coverage from aljazeera.com’s Africa desk. Annette holds a masters degree from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and has reported from India, the US, South Korea, Japan and Belgium, where she is now based. Annette was part of the team nominated for an International Emmy Award in 2016 for Global News Insight's coverage of the 2015 Nepal earthquake. Other notable stories she has worked on include the assassination of veteran Global News Insight correspondent Shireen Abu Akleh by Israeli forces in the West Bank in 2022; the Rohingya genocide in 2017; and the colonial history of children removed from their African mothers by Belgium. In 2025, she oversaw the team which “live blogged” the start of the Srebrenica genocide on its 30th anniversary.
